Today felt like an awesome day to me! I slept in a little bit, which is NOT awesome, but I got to work bright and early with writing — primarily emails to various subscriber lists.

After my slow morning, I hiked to the cabin and got to work doing my studies for the day (I’m loving studies of the Reilly heads right now):

Now…these aren’t super-duper pretty by any means, but as I’m trying to figure out how to use the rhythms in drawing, it’s really helping me quickly capture a likeness.

Then…it was time for lunch, so back down the hill a little earlier than normal, then off to Affinity. At Affinity, I set up an hour and a half early for my appointment….because I didn’t check my calendar to see what time the appointment was! Oops!

I used my spare time to sketch some more heads:

I feel like I was finally starting to get the hang of the actual application of the Reilly method here. So I kept going:

And then…it was time to tattoo:

I have one more session to go here for highlights and packing white, but it’s almost done!

What was awesome?

A day filled to the brim with creative activities.

Having a small breakthrough with Reilly head drawing. Every time I go back to the fundamentals I understand the advanced concepts so much better.

What needs work?

Honestly, I’d really like to start building up a passive income in other artsy areas. I think I’m just going to start making opportunities for myself.

What did I learn?

Tattooing is an amazing career that I’m grateful for, but I want to pursue more fine art or digital art in the future. Having a day full of studying and drawing like today was absolutely wonderful.

And don’t forget to check out CreateQuest – a project that I’m working on with Chris Beaven. It’s our mission to bring creatives together in an empowering community with a focus on improving the world, not just changing it.
