So…I’ve determined that my best art time is literally first thing in the morning, right after my meditation, workout, and writing. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to really make that a daily practice without a miracle.
The best PLACE for me to make art seems to be my cabin. No distractions, loud music, everything I want/need in a studio…and I usually can’t make it up to the cabin until 8-9 a.m. If I’m lucky to make it to the cabin at all.

I thoroughly enjoyed my warmup today. I feel like MOST of my exercises were accurate, especially superimposed lines and “target practice” with my straight lines. I struggled on ellipses, as usual, but they seem to be getting a little more consistent.
I did a quick demo on Facebook to help new artists with the biggest mistake I see them making. As I’m doing my best to train artists at Affinity, I thought it’d be helpful to them if I did a live video. š

Gestures were a challenge today. I tried to do them right before a shop meeting, my mind was very much elsewhere.

And I put together this design for Thursday. I’ll be working on cleaning up the lines and doing a color study tomorrow. I’m pretty excited about that one!
I also need to get a start on the Beetlejuice design ASAP…
What went well?
- Making a helpful video for artists — it actually wasn’t that bad aside from the sneeze. š
- Progress on a tattoo design.
- Lots of sleep.
What needs work?
- The cabin is absolutely FREEZING today.
- Energy management.
- I’m not very happy with my gestures.
What did I learn?
I need to get my art time in as soon as humanly possible, and I need more time FOR art, in general. Tomorrow I’ll be taking my son to the cabin with me and not tattooing, so I hope things go well with that experiment.
